made me smile | 900-year old church goes renewable

St. Michael and All Angels Church in Withington, England, solar panels by Kyocera

This made me smile this morning.

Because it is wonderful to see how history and modernity can cohabit without interfereing one with the other. Wasn`t it what was happening during the Middle Ages with the Roman temples? [I am Italian and we had so many discussion about this topic in architecture school…!]

I don`t have a definitive position; I believe it depends on the building we are talking about and on the history and the preciousness of it. But I definitely believe that we should speak our our language, that is the language of modernity! And what better sentence than turning a 900-year old church into an example of sustainability?

What do you think?
