a farm for growing chairs. it is such an humorous idea!                                                           this made me smile this morning.

the increased urban farming, with many green spaces transformed into shared gardens for agricultural experiments, is the inspiring suggestion behind this original work by werner aisslinger; a berlin and singapore-based designer and architect.

aisslinger believes that giving everyone the possibility of becoming a producer of agricultural products will be the future in regard to quality and sustainability. with this in mind he thought of a creative way of inverting the production of furniture from globalised serial manufacturing to a resource-conserving local development. the ‘plantation furniture’ in fact could be created within an agricultural lab.

the chair comes with a kit that gives everyone the possibility to plant and naturally grow their own chair. with this philosophy, furniture are no longer produced in the classical sense of the word, rather they are self-produced, following a new ecological direction and rethinking the future of the furniture industry.

and you, would you like to grow your own furniture?!

the ‘chair farm-plantation furniture’ greenhouse and laboratory is on show at ventura lambrate as part of the ‘instant stories’ exhibition during milan design week 2012.
