Can you make sense of energy? It is difficult for me so I can use some help

It is difficult to make sense of energy. We all know that our computer uses electricity and we shouldn’t leave the lights on in a room if we aren’t there because it’s a waste of electricity, but it is difficult to really understand what ENERGY IS. Can you say you’ve ever seen energy? Yeha maybe during a thunderstorm looking at the lightings you can have an idea of the power of energy.

But then how much electricity uses my computer compared to the kettle I use to prepare my tea? I found some illustrations can really help me. Following you’ll have some examples.

A photocopier left on standby overnight wastes enough energy to make 30 cups of tea. Switch it off and you’ll make all the difference.

A computer left on overnight for a year creates enough CO2 to fill a double-decker bus. Switch it off and you’ll make all the difference.

Office lights left on overnight use enough energy in a year to heat a home for almost 5 months. Switch them off and you’ll make all the difference.

There are many others and I will put updates here so that we can all enjoy them and try to really understand what energy means.

As always if you found something that helped you understanding the connection between your actions and energy share them with us, be it a picture, an article, or a scientific paper!
